Senator Chris Murphy Slams ESPN’s Victor Wembanyama Betting Graphic as “Heartbreaking” Sign of Modern Sports Culture

Senator Chris Murphy slammed ESPN’s latest social media post about Victor Wembanyama’s Game 6 performance. The San Antonio Spurs registered a thumping 118-91 victory over the OKC Thunder.

Wembanyama exited the game with nine minutes remaining after scoring 28 points, falling just short of his player prop, which was set at 28.5. ESPN highlighted this in its Instagram post. Murphy shared a screenshot of the post and criticized the state of sports media.

    He wrote:

“The transition of sports fandom from loyalty and joy and community to monetization and commodification is a little heartbreaking to me. A signal of the broader commercialization of everything not nailed down in America.”

Wembanyama also had 10 rebounds. The Spurs led by 26 points (100-74) when he exited the game.

Game 7 might not be as easy for Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs

The OKC Thunder are the favorites to win the Western Conference Finals series. The defending champions have not lost back-to-back games in the postseason. Game 7 will be played at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma on Saturday.

The Thunder bench has been the strongest point of the team this postseason, under the able and experienced leadership of Alex Caruso. That has really been the difference-maker.

For the Spurs, De’Aaron Fox’s form will be crucial. He has not been at his best, scoring nine points in Game 5 on 26.7% shooting and five points in Game 6 on 11.1% shooting. Although Dylan Harper has filled in effectively, Fox’s return to form is long overdue.
