Philadelphia 76ers vs Cleveland Cavaliers Preview and Prediction
The Philadelphia 76ers showed some positive momentum toward the end of February, putting together a three-game winning streak between Feb. 22 and Feb. 26. Since then, though, they have struggled to keep that rhythm going. The team has dropped three of its last four games, which has pushed them down to the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 34-29 record.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have also cooled off a bit since the All-Star break. On Feb. 21, in just their third game after the break, they saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end. Counting that loss, the Cavs have gone 3-4, including a disappointing defeat to a Giannis Antetokounmpo-less Milwaukee Bucks squad.
Even with that dip in form, Cleveland remains in a comfortable position in the standings. The Cavaliers hold the fourth seed in the East with a 39-25 record and sit 2.5 games ahead of the fifth-place Toronto Raptors.
Cleveland has had the upper hand in this matchup all season, winning every meeting against the 76ers so far. Philadelphia lost the first two games 132-121 on Nov. 5 and 133-107 on Jan. 14, but their most recent matchup on Jan. 16 was far more competitive.
Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid combined for 55 points in that game and kept the Sixers within striking distance. However, Jaylon Tyson delivered a huge performance for Cleveland, scoring 39 points to help the Cavaliers secure a narrow 117–115 win.
Given how the season series has played out, Cleveland enters Monday’s game as the clear favorite. The task will be even tougher for Philadelphia because of injuries. The Sixers are expected to be without Maxey, Embiid, Johni Broome, and Paul George.
Prediction: Expect the Cavaliers to win by 14 points.
