Philadelphia 76ers NBA Playoffs Picture: Updated Standings, Best Case Scenario After Loss to Heat (Mar. 30)

The Philadelphia 76ers continued their three-game road trip with a stop in Florida to face the Miami Heat on Monday. It did not go their way, as Philly lost 119-109 at Kaseya Center, snapping their two-game win streak.

For most of the fourth quarter, the Sixers looked like they had control. They were up 107-103 with just over three minutes left, and ESPN gave them an 82.4% chance to win at that point. Then everything flipped. Miami closed the game on a 14-0 run and defied odds to pull off the upset.

There were still some strong performances for Philadelphia. Tyrese Maxey put up 23 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists, while Joel Embiid added 26 points. Paul George and VJ Edgecombe also contributed, combining for 32 points as part of the starting lineup.

The bench did not offer much depth. Only three players saw enough minutes to make an impact. Kelly Oubre Jr. and Quentin Grimes led that unit with 11 points each, though they struggled with efficiency, shooting only a combined 9-22 FG.

On the other side, Miami relied heavily on its stars. Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro led the charge with a combined 53 points. Pelle Larsson also stepped up with a strong double-double, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds to help seal the comeback.

Philadelphia 76ers playoffs picture: Updated Standings

After Monday’s loss to the Miami Heat, the Philadelphia 76ers now sit at 41-34 on the season. They are still holding onto the No. 7 spot in the Eastern Conference, but the gap between them and the #6 Atlanta Hawks has grown to 1.5 games.

At the same time, the race behind them is getting tighter. The Heat, currently in the No. 9 spot, are closing in, leaving Philadelphia with just a 1.5-game cushion before potentially slipping into the 9-10 range of the play-in tournament.

Philadelphia 76ers playoffs picture: Remaining Schedule

The Philadelphia 76ers are right in the middle of the league in terms of remaining schedule strength. They rank 16th overall, with their final seven opponents having an average win rate of 50.7%.

In those seven games, the Sixers will take on four teams with better records, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets. The remaining three matchups come against teams below them in the standings and out of playoff contention, including the Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers, and Milwaukee Bucks.

If Philadelphia wins the three games against the lower-ranked teams and drops the rest, they would likely finish the regular season at 44-38. That would mark a 20-win jump from last season. While this is a solid improvement, it probably would not be enough to secure a top-six spot, requiring them to go through the play-in tournament to secure a playoff berth.
