The Philadelphia 76ers’ injury woes have gone from bad to worse ahead of their key clash against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. As Joel Embiid remains out for at least three more games, Tyrese Maxey will join him for at least two. The All-Star guard is out with a right finger sprain he sustained in the 76ers’ 125-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday.
The team announced he would miss the next two games and undergo further testing and consultation on the injury. If it’s a bigger issue than it seems, Philadelphia could be in massive trouble while already surviving Embiid’s injury issues and Paul George’s suspension.
Meanwhile, Tyrese Maxey’s backcourt partner and the 76ers’ third-best player, VJ Edgecombe, is questionable to play. Edgecombe hasn’t played since Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs, after sustaining a lumbar contusion. He remains 50-50 to suit up and will likely be a game-time decision. Egdecombe was doubtful in the last game before being ruled out.
Kelly Oubre Jr. is listed but is available to face the Cavaliers. He’s managing a left knee injury. Meanwhile, Johni Broome is ruled out as he’s recovering from right knee surgery.
