OKC Thunder vs LA Clippers Preview and Prediction

No team has been in better form than the OKC Thunder, especially in the second half of the season. While battling the San Antonio Spurs for the top spot in the West, the Thunder have stayed firmly in control, going an impressive 21-2 since the All-Star break concluded. That run has given them a comfortable three-game cushion, putting them on the verge of locking in the number one seed.

The LA Clippers, on the other hand, have not been as strong in closing the season as expected. Over the past three weeks, they’ve gone 7-6, including disappointing losses against struggling teams such as the New Orleans Pelicans (twice) and the Sacramento Kings. Even with that inconsistency, they’ve managed to move up to the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings.

The Thunder have clearly had the upper hand in this matchup. They’ve already secured the season series 2-0. Further, neither game was close, with the average differential being 20.0 points per game.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been a big reason for that dominance. He’s been outstanding in these matchups, putting up 31.0 points and 9.0 assists per game while leading the offense with ease.

At this point, the Thunder just looks like the stronger team in every aspect. They’re widely seen as one of the top contenders for the title, and it’s hard to picture the Clippers pulling off an upset here. With a win tonight securing the number one seed, expect OKC to come out aggressive early, build a solid lead, and possibly rest their starters later in the game.

Prediction: Expect the Thunder to win by 10 points.
