OKC Thunder vs Denver Nuggets Preview and Prediction

The OKC Thunder have been on a tear in the second half of the season, putting together an incredible 22-2 record since the All-Star break. That run also helped them lock up the top seed in the Western Conference for the third straight year.

The Denver Nuggets have been strong too, going 17-8 over that same stretch. Their push helped them move ahead of the LA Lakers, and they now sit in third place in the West. With just two games left, they hold a one-game lead and have virtually secured the #3 seed.

Even with how well Denver has played, it is surprising that they have not beaten Oklahoma City this season. The Thunder already clinched the season series 3-0. That said, every game has been competitive, with OKC winning by an average of just 6.3 points.

A big reason for that success has been Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been dominant in these matchups with averages of 35.0 points and 12.3 assists per game.

Overall, the Thunder have clearly been the better team this season. But this matchup looks very different. Oklahoma City will be missing most of its rotation, including Shai, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Isaiah Hartenstein, Jaylin Williams, Cason Wallace, Ajay Mitchell, Alex Caruso, Isaiah Joe, and Thomas Sorber.

With so many key players out, it is hard to see the Thunder keeping up. The Nuggets only need one more win to secure the #3 seed officially, and this sets up as a perfect opportunity.

Prediction: Expect the Nuggets to win by 19 points.
