OG Anunoby Injury Update: Sports Doctor Warns Worst-Case Scenario Could End Knicks Forward’s Season

OG Anunoby exited Game 2 of the New York Knicks’ conference semifinals matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers after an uncomfortable hamstring strain. In the fourth quarter of the game, the Knicks’ forward seemed to have extended his hamstring and was sidelined for the last two and a half minutes. And now, a sports doctor has given a damning update on him.

The Knicks won both the initial home games and took a 2-0 lead in the series. After overcoming the Atlanta Hawks in Round 1, the team has continued its winning run in the second round. Anunoby has been one of the top performers of the playoffs, scoring 24 points and five rebounds, along with four steals and one block.

Sports doctor Jesse Morse shared the possibilities of the two-way forward’s further process of rehabilitation and wrote on X:

“If this shows a grade 1 strain (mild), his series will be over but he could potentially return in two weeks with the right treatments assuming everything goes well for the Knicks with the series.

If it is a grade 2, moderate, partial tear, these take 6-8 weeks, think Luka Doncic, then his season is likely over unfortunately.”

Anunoby was visibly in pain after feeling discomfort in his hamstring. No matter whether it’s a Grade 1 or Grade 2 injury, the Knicks’ defensive anchor will miss significant time and won’t be seen on the floor for the upcoming games.

OG Anunoby and Co. get the Knicks to dominant start

While Jalen Brusnons has led the Knicks to a much-needed start after a challenging series against the Hawks that went to Game 7, OG Anunoby has backed up the offense and done his part on the defensive end. His absence will take the team back a little from here and will allow the 76ers to get back in the series.

Joel Embiid once again was out of Game 2 due to ankle soreness, and the 76ers’ series is again on the defensive. Time will tell if the team can pull off another comeback like Round 1.
