NYPD Halts MSG Outdoor Watch Parties After Knicks Playoff Crowd Gets Too Rowdy

The New York Knicks’ fans are as legendary as the team. Known for their support and loudness in Madison Square Garden, the fanbase has caught attention for the wrong reasons. The New York Police Department has taken action after it received complaints of “rowdiness” among fans outside MSG.

The Knicks have been on a run this postseason and lead the Eastern Conference finals 2-0 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. There is no doubt that fans have waited a long time to see a title come to the city, as their last title victory came in 1973. However, their happiness soon turned into a ruckus when the NY police reported “rowdiness” during watch parties outside the arena.

New York Sports shared the update on Instagram and wrote:

“The NYPD has pulled the plug on outdoor watch parties outside MSG due to escalating rowdiness from Knicks fans, including six arrests after ECF Game 2.”

Josh Hart was offensively clinical in the last game, scoring 26 points and seven assists. All starters scored in double digits and shot the ball well from deep. Karl-Anthony Towns scored a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The team will try to clinch Game 3 and put pressure on the Cavs.

James Harden and the Cavaliers under pressure against the Knicks in Game 3

The James Harden-Donovan Mitchell duo has been the most important asset for the Cavaliers this postseason. However, the Beard has suffered in this series, averaging 16.5 points and five rebounds. He will be under pressure and look to be back in form, especially in clutch situations.

Mitchell has performed well, but that is not enough to win the conference finals. Evan Mobley has been a defensive giant on the paint. The Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart duo has led the Knicks to a stellar postseason. Moreover, Karl-Anthony Town’s production has also improved, which is a good sign for the Knicks.

While it’s good news for fans, they won’t be able to enjoy the game with other fans outside the arena. The venue hosts around 20K fans in a packed game, which is normal in the postseason. However, not every fan can afford the hefty price of those tickets, and thus, watch parties were a fun place for such fans.
