Michael Jordan’s Rare Feelings on Steve Kerr As Details of Private Conversation Emerge After Warriors Contract Renewal

Michael Jordan and Steve Kerr were part of the Chicago Bulls’ storied decade, when the franchise won two three-peats. Kerr extended his NBA career, working as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. However, after a dismal run with the team for the last few seasons, his coaching job has come under severe scrutiny, even leading to rumors of his exit from the franchise. But his former teammate believed in him.

After years of moving on to their separate paths, the two legends of the game met in a hotel lobby and greeted each other with “love and respect.” Kerr admitted to MJ’s role in his career and said:

“Everything that has happened in my career is because of playing with you.”

In reply, Jordan hailed Kerr for working hard and said:

“You’ve earned it. You’ve earned all of it.”

The meeting surfaced on social media amid the uncertainty around Steve Kerr’s future in the NBA. However, the Warriors have offered the head coach a 2-year contract extension and quashed all rumors.

The Warriors were ousted from the season in play-ins after losing to the Phoenix Suns. The franchise will now look to make some changes for the upcoming season to boost their and Steph Curry’s chances of another title.

One game changed Steve Kerr’s mind on retirement

Steve Kerr, who has won a total of nine championships, five as a player and four as a coach, reportedly made up his mind about leaving the NBA after this season. As per ESPN journalist Wright Thompson, Kerr was 95% sure of his retirement from the head coaching job after the 2025-26 season, when the Warriors matched up with the LA Clippers in play-ins.

The Warriors defeated the Clippers 126-121 in a thrilling fashion. Steph Curry went for 11 points and three assists in the fourth quarter to get the team a win. That game reportedly changed Kerr’s decision, and he said:

    “I’m not leaving.”

The team even shared a heartfelt video on YouTube when he completed 10 years with the franchise.

As per Thompson’s report, Steve Kerr was exhausted after 12 grueling seasons as a head coach but admitted that he couldn’t stay away from the game he loves so much. The 2016-17 NBA Coach of the Year also led Team USA to a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. If Kerr is coming back, Curry might also gear up for another round of basketball next season.
