Five-time NBA champion Ron Harper reacted to Karl-Anthony Towns’ comment about wanting to dominate the game like LA Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal.
Towns recorded a triple-double in Game 6 to eliminate the Atlanta Hawks from the playoffs, finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals. After the series-clinching win, Towns spoke about his childhood memories, saying he wishes to impact winning the way O’Neal did with the Lakers.
“You grow up, you’re watching in my era, you’re watching the Lakers win with Shaq and Kobe,” Towns said. “And for me as a big man, I just wanted to dominate the game like Shaq. Especially in these moments.”
Harper reacted to Towns’ comments on Instagram, saying that he needs to play in the paint more often.
“You better go play inside more then,” Harper wrote.

Ron Harper won three championships playing next to Michael Jordan on the Chicago Bulls in 1996, 1997 and 1998. He joined the Lakers in 1999 and won two championships alongside Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 and 2001.
Shaquille O’Neal calls Karl-Anthony Towns the “key” to the Knicks winning
Speaking on the “Big Pod with Shaq” in March, O’Neal had described Karl-Anthony Towns as the “key” to a potential championship run for the New York Knicks.
“I think the key is Karl-Anthony Towns. He has the potential to be that. I always tell people, if you get a little puppy and it always keeps coming back, you got a dog. Every time he gives 27, 28 points, I’m like, ‘That’s how you should play.’ Brunson and you – 1,2 punch. He’s the key.”
O’Neal said Towns could drive wins for New York alongside Jalen Brunson. Brunson led the team in scoring in the first round, averaging 26.3 points and 6.2 assists per game. Towns, meanwhile, recorded 18.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
New York will take on the Philadelphia 76ers, led by Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, in the Conference semifinals, tipping off on Monday. The 76ers defeated the Boston Celtics in seven games to advance.
