The latest report on Giannis Antetokounmpo claims that the two-time NBA MVP still likes Milwaukee, but wants to leave the Bucks. The rumor from ESPN Milwaukee left many confused about whether Antetokounmpo truly wants to join another franchise.
The report was initially released on Thursday, but went viral after “NBA Central” aggregated it on X on Friday. It garnered over a million views and 1100 comments within an hour.
Most fans called out Antetokounmpo for being “indecisive.” It has been a trend over the past year as Antetokounmpo has made cryptic comments about staying put or moving. At times, he’s also opposed trade rumors from insiders. Here are some of the top reactions to this report from ESPN Milwaukee:
Bucks have set an unrealistic price for Giannis Antetokounmpo: Report
Most predictions suggested that Giannis Antetokounmpo could be traded by the NBA draft, which is less than a week away on Tuesday. However, nothing has materialized despite persistent rumors and the likelihood of Antetokounmpo leaving at an all-time high.
The Bucks could have played a part in it. At least, that’s what the latest report from insider Jake Fischer suggested.
“The Bucks naturally want as much as they can if they’re parting with their Face of the Franchise, so what constitutes unrealistic? Sources say Milwaukee has been asking teams for returns that would leave any club acquiring Antetokounmpo too barren to contend for a championship,” Fischer wrote on Friday for The Stein Line.
“Which is the precise opportunity Giannis is known to be seeking if he’s going to finally leave Brewtown after 13 seasons and commit to a long-term contract extension with a new team.”
The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics have been reported as the top two suitors for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Both teams have picks and player assets that could entice Milwaukee. For now, the Heat seem more desperate and the better package, which likely includes this year’s No. 13 pick, Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware and future first-round picks.
Antetokounmpo’s preference also matters here and Miami and Boston are two landing spots he doesn’t mind. It would allow him to stay on the East Coast and visit Milwaukee often.
