The Miami Heat kicked off their three-game homestand on Monday with a matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. Even though they entered the game as underdogs, Miami pulled off a 119-109 victory, putting an end to their two-game losing skid.
What stood out most was their late-game fight, putting their resilience on full display. With just over three minutes left, the Sixers were up by four points and had an 82.4% chance to win, according to ESPN. From that moment on, though, Miami flipped the script completely, closing the game on a 14-0 run to seal the win.
Tyler Herro led the way with an impressive 30-point performance, shooting 12-24 from the field, along with three assists and three combined steals and blocks. In the frontcourt, Bam Adebayo and Pelle Larsson both recorded double-doubles. Adebayo finished with 23 points and 16 rebounds, while Larsson added 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Off the bench, Jaime Jaquez Jr. gave the team a valuable boost, putting up 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists to help power the second unit.
Miami Heat playoffs picture: Updated Standings
The Miami Heat improved to 40-36 after their win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, and it could not have come at a better time. They now sit 9th in the Eastern Conference, tied with the 8th-seeded Orlando Magic, which puts them in a strong position to climb into the 7-8 play-in range. That spot is crucial because it gives them two chances to secure a playoff berth.
While it is still mathematically possible for Miami to skip the play-in and qualify directly for the playoffs, the odds are very low. They are three games behind the 6th-place Atlanta Hawks, and with only six games left in the regular season, there is very little room to close that gap.
Miami Heat playoffs picture: Remaining Schedule
The Miami Heat have a relatively easy stretch coming up, with the sixth-easiest remaining schedule in the league. Their upcoming opponents have a combined average win rate of 47%.
That said, it is not completely straightforward. Four of their final six games are against teams with better records, including the Boston Celtics, the Toronto Raptors (twice), and the Atlanta Hawks. The only team in that span with a worse record is the Washington Wizards, whom they will also face twice.
If everything goes as expected and there are no upsets, Miami is projected to finish the regular season at 42-40. That would put them three wins ahead of where they ended last season.
