Mark Cuban Claims Patrick Dumont Shut Him Out of Major Mavericks Arena Deal

The NBA’s former Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, has accused the current leadership of the franchise, Patrick Dumont, of shutting him out of a business deal. Last week, he filed a petition in court, asking the franchise to come clean about the real estate deal. In late 2023, Cuban sold the majority stake in the franchise to Dumont and Miriam Adelson, but the two parties have not had a cordial transition.

The deal Cuban referred to was the bid to move the official team arena 10 miles north of downtown, in which the former owner said that Dumont engaged in “adversarial business practices,” per the Dallas Morning News. More than that, Cuban alleged that he was denied opportunities in the proposed area, where he was “contractually entitled to participate.”

The Mavericks signed an agreement to acquire 104 acres of land in the area, which is scheduled to begin operation by 2031, when the franchise will end its lease with the American Airlines Center. In December 2023, Cuban kept just 27% of the franchise, but the new ownership promised him to continue leading basketball operations.

However, Nico Harrison was brought in as the general manager, and Cuban’s role gradually declined. He alleged that he wasn’t aware of the decision to trade Luka Doncic until it was too late, a decision that later arguably proved to be a big blunder by management.

“I regret who I sold to,” Mark Cuban earlier regretted selling his stakes

On March 31, Mark Cuban featured on the Intersections podcast, where he talked about his decision to sell the majority stake and other team decisions. He expressed his feelings openly about the Las Vegas Sands family and said:

“I don’t regret selling. I regret who I sold to. I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I’ll leave it at that.”

After the decision to trade Doncic went wrong, Harrison was fired, and Mike Schmitz and Masai Ujiri were given charge of the team. The team has yet to make any significant decisions this offseason.

Cuban is currently not involved in major team decisions, as the franchise looks towards a major overhaul in its roster before the next season. Cooper Flagg has emerged as the new franchise face after his Rookie of the Year campaign in the 2025-26 season.
