“Let Steve Kerr Walk So He Can Do Politics Full Time”: Warriors Fans React to Loss Against Hawks Despite Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler’s 61 Points

Steve Kerr’s Golden State Warriors lost 124-111 to the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday despite Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler combining for 61 points. The Dubs trailed 59-53 at halftime before a strong surge from the visiting team dropped the Warriors’ record to 21-19. Kerr’s team is now just 3-2 in January.

After the game, Warriors fans reacted to the loss:

“Let Steve Kerr walk so he can do politics full time. Draymond playing heavy minutes. Keep his old ahh at about 19 minutes per game. Just admit he was overpaid. We got beat by the Hawks. Have some shame and put him on the trade table.”

    One fan said:

“Accolades aside, at some point, Steve Kerr need to be held accountable.”

    Another fan added:

“Out here making a washed Luke Kennard look like prime Klay Thompson.”

    One more fan continued:

    “Fire Steve Kerr!!!”

    One fan wrote:

“Michael Porter Jr. would cure a lot of problems the Warriors are having.”

On Friday, Kerr blasted the US government for allegedly lying about the story surrounding the fatal death of a woman in Minneapolis. According to Kerr, videos and stories refute US President Donald Trump’s comment that an ICE agent shot Renee Good out of self-defense.

A fan couldn’t resist using that same postgame interview to troll Steve Kerr.

The Hawks are No. 9 in the Eastern Conference with a 20-21 record, but they are capable of beating anybody. This month, they have beaten the Minnesota Timberwolves and the New York Knicks. They headed into the showdown against the Dubs riding a two-game winning streak.

Steph Curry dropped 31 points on 11-for-21 shooting, although he struggled from deep, going 3-for-11. He added five assists and three rebounds. Jimmy Butler went 10-for-19 and hit 8 of 8 free throw shots. The former Miami Heat star also contributed seven rebounds and six assists.

While Curry and Butler showed up, Steve Kerr couldn’t coax more out of his other players. Draymond Green, Quinten Post and Moody, who completed the starting lineup, combined for 15 points on 5-for-13 shooting. Kerr’s bench shot 16-for-37. Golden State’s 10-for-42 shooting from 3-point distance was another key reason for the loss.

Steve Kerr’s defense was overwhelmed by Hawks’ 3-point shooting

Backup combo guard Luke Kennard led the Hawks’ dismantling of the Steve Kerr-coached Warriors’ defense. Kennard, who played 20 minutes, scattered 22 points that were highlighted by 6-for-9 shooting from 3-point distance. Nickeil Alexander-Walker (3-for-7) and center Onyeka Okongwu (3-for-6) helped the Hawks beat the Dubs at their own game.

Atlanta made 15 of 39 attempts (38%) from behind the arc compared to the home team’s 10-for-42 clip (24%). The Hawks took control of the game when they made 4 of 6 shots from that distance in the third quarter.

Steve Kerr’s team was sometimes too late in challenging shooters, and a few defensive plays broke down due to miscommunication.

On the other end, the Warriors struggled to hit the deep ball. Draymond Green, Moses Moody, De’Anthony Melton and Will Richard went 0-for-11 from long range.
