LeBron James’ Agent Rich Paul Claps Back at His Podcast’s Critics: “Discouragement Has Killed More People Than Guns”

With the entire NBA community fixated on LeBron James’ next landing spot, the King’s agent Rich Paul is in the limelight once again. Amidst the discourse on James’ major decision, Paul took the opportunity to respond to his naysayers.

Appearing on Sunday’s episode of the “Nightcap” podcast, Paul was asked by Shannon Sharpe to comment on the critics who take issue with his dual role of NBA agent and podcaster. Paul responded by pointing out the significance of his emergence in the content creation space.

“Everybody’s speaking on everything. What I say is, I’m not turning down an opportunity to influence the youth, to give the youth confidence that they can do anything…I don’t get discouraged. Discouragement has killed more people than guns, Unc.”

Paul added that he considered himself a trailblazer, someone who is the CEO of a company (Klutch Sports) that happens to be an agent.

While Paul’s track record in that latter role is quite impressive, given that he’s guided the careers of former NBA champions like James, Draymond Green, and Anthony Davis, he’s had his fair share of detractors who’ve taken aim at his opinions on the “Game Over” podcast.

Among other comments, Paul raised eyebrows when he said during the 2025-26 NBA season that the Lakers did not have what it takes to go all the way in the playoffs. As it turned out, the Lakers would find themselves on the wrong end of a sweep in the second round at the hands of the OKC Thunder.

Analyst Gives Rich Paul “Advice” on LeBron James’ Next Move: “Why Not Bring Another Trip to Miami?”

In the same “Nightcap” episode, Sharpe’s fellow analyst Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson dished out some unsolicited advice for Rich Paul’s client LeBron James.

“At this point in his career, do you want to go to the West and deal with them juggernauts?…Down here, the 305, where he’s already been, why not bring another trip down here?”

Giving nothing away, Paul kept a poker face as Johnson made his case. Before Sharpe steered the conversation to another topic, Paul merely commented “You’re funny” to acknowledge what Johnson said.
