Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr spoke to the media on Friday following the Dubs’ 137-103 win over the Sacramento Kings. Kerr addressed some of the issues hounding the team, including rising trade talks about forward Jonathan Kuminga. After basketball-related talks, Kerr was inevitably asked to comment on the alleged shooting of a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
US President Donald Trump said in the aftermath, via multiple reports, that the victim tried to “run over” the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. Kerr responded when asked to comment on Trump’s reaction:
“It’s shameful, really, that in our country, we can have law enforcement officers who commit murder and seemingly get away with it. It’s shameful that the government can come out and lie when there’s video and witnesses who have all come out and disputed what the government is saying.”
Trump wasn’t the only US government official who insisted that the ICE agent acted in self-defense. Kristi Noem, the US Homeland Security Secretary, held a press conference on Thursday and said that “the woman attacked them and attempted to run them over.”
However, a New York Times video on Friday showed a seemingly different story. Renee Good moved her SUV to the right to avoid the ICE agent, who had two feet on the left of the vehicle. Still, the agent allegedly shot the legal observer a few blocks from her home.
The video also showed that a man, who claimed to be a physician, asked the agents permission to check the pulse of the 37-year-old mother. He received an emphatic no from the agents who had cordoned off the scene.
As the agents gathered around the crime scene, onlookers began calling them out for killing somebody.
Steve Kerr did not hold back with his comment following the US government’s account of the story.
Steve Kerr campaigned for a president with “dignity” and who tells “the truth”
In August 2024, Steve Kerr returned to his old haunts to help the Democrats’ 2024 presidential campaign against Donald Trump. Kerr spoke in front of a packed United Center crowd, who reacted to his every word, pause and action.
Kerr said to them:
“As an American, I believe in a certain kind of leadership. I believe that leaders must display dignity. I believe leaders must tell the truth.”
Steve Kerr added that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and his running mate Tim Waltz had all those credentials.
Donald Trump and JD Vance triumphed over Harris and Waltz for the top two positions in the US government.
Roughly two years into his speech, Steve Kerr blasted Trump for the president’s alleged “lie” in the Minneapolis shooting.
