This might be the day for LeBron James! The Golden State Warriors have made a lot of headlines, continuously pursuing the four-time NBA champion over the last few days, in their quest to put together a dream team. Some sources also believed the franchise might be looking to add Anthony Davis to the mix, given his trade value has significantly declined due to his constant injury concerns. ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst suggested that today might be D-day for some big news.
Even though the Warriors might be pursuing Davis to lure James to Golden State, given they won the championship together in Los Angeles in 2020, the Big 3 combination of Steph Curry, LBJ, and Davis (Jimmy Butler would have to be traded to make room for Davis) might be everything the franchise hopes for. Fullcourtpass shared Windhorst’s big prediction on X:
“The Warriors are going to make an offer to LeBron James and try to steal him from the Lakers TODAY”
Moreover, the popular predictions platform Kalshi showed 32% odds that James would sign with the Warriors. James and Curry, though long-time conference rivals, have enjoyed a great bond off the court. The superteam that Team USA assembled for the 2024 Paris Olympics was heavily dependent on these two.
Moreover, their playstyles also gel like peanut butter and jelly when they are on court, as James loves to facilitate the ball, and there is no greater shooter in the league than the Baby-faced Assassin.
The Warriors Would Have To Move Some Pieces To Acquire Both LeBron James and Draymond Green
Draymond Green has declined his $27.7 million player option with the Warriors, meaning he is either looking for a better salary or a long-term contract. The Warriors are around $32.5 million below the first apron. Even if they are lucky enough to land LeBron James on a $15 million salary, it wouldn’t be enough to accommodate Green’s payout as well.
The only option is that the franchise moves someone like Moses Moody in the offseason, who is already out indefinitely due to his knee injury, and signs the rest of the squad on veteran minimums. Meanwhile, they have already offered a 2-year, $40 million deal to Kristaps Porzingis. Only time will tell if James will also come to Golden State and form a superteam with his greatest rival.
