The LA Lakers have been busy this offseason, signing a number of free agents and dealing with the departure of superstar LeBron James. On top of this, the Lakers were also active during the NBA draft, acquiring Baylor standout Cameron Carr in a four-team trade that also involved the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Phoenix Suns.
Carr, who was originally the Knicks’ no. 24 pick in this year’s draft, went on to have a splendid second outing for the Lakers in the 2026 Summer League. After the 6-foot-5 guard dropped 26 points in a 93-91 win over the Miami Heat, fans reacted with enthusiasm on social media.
Carr, who spent two seasons with Tennessee before blossoming at Baylor, ended up leading all scorers in this game as he went 7-for-16 from the field. He made four of his nine outside attempts and went 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.
This performance from Carr bodes well for the prospects of the Lakers’ backcourt, which added Collin Sexton and Quentin Grimes to back up Luka Doncic and the newly re-signed Austin Reaves.
Report: Lakers Have Informed Rui Hachimura That He Won’t Be Returning Next Season
As for the Lakers’ frontcourt, there’s been major turnover as well. Deandre Ayton has been traded to the Wizards, Jaxson Hayes has signed with the Jazz in free agency, and the duo of Walker Kessler and Sandro Mamukelashvili has joined the purple and gold squad.
Meanwhile, Lakers reporter Aron Cohen has reported that the team will be moving on from Rui Hachimura. Cohen called this decision to let go of Hachimura, who’d been with the Lakers since 2023 the “end of an era.”
Hachimura has long been rumored to be parting ways with the Lakers, and now, it’s looking like he’ll be wearing a different uniform when the 2026-27 season tips off.
