The NBA legend Kevin Durant and Kendrick Perkins’ family shared a heartfelt moment after the Houston Rockets’ last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The relationship between Durant and Perkins was not always hunky-dory, even though they played together in their Thunder days.
The Rockets suffered a loss against the top seed of the Western Conference, 91-111. It all came down to the bench production of both teams. The Thunder’s bench was led by Ajay Mitchell, who added 17 points, as they scored a total of 49 points. On the other hand, the Rockets’ bench could only contribute 23 points. Durant had a 19-point outing on the court, but the real highlight came off the court.
Durant was surprised by Kendrick Perkins’ family after the game, as Perkins Sr. was busy working in Los Angeles. The Easy Money Sniper embraced the children and clicked some snaps with the family. Kendrick Perkins uploaded the clip and the picture on social media, with an emotional caption:
“I’m LA working. Haven’t spoken to KD and damn near 2 years but my Family went to the game in Houston and this Happened!!! Real Shit “
Durant and Perkins’ relationship took a dip back in 2016, when the two-time NBA champion decided to leave the Thunder squad, which was mainly dependent on him. Perkins believed that he made the “weakest move in the NBA history.”
Since then, the two have confronted one another on various occasions on social media. However, the recent gesture by the NBA legend might have just put the water under the bridge.
The 2008 NBA champion had to eat his words when Durant went on to become part of the Warriors’ legacy in their winning days. However, he could not stay long with any franchise after his Thunder days and still looks to add another ring to his basket of accolades.
Kevin Durant crosses Wilt Chamberlain to reach 7th on the all-time scoring list
There are no ifs and buts when it comes to Kevin Durant’s abilities as a baller. He averages 20.3 points, with 43% from the field and 28.8% from the 3-point line. More than that, his ability to make clutch plays and win games for his teams has been unmatched in the league.
Durant crossed Wilt Chamberlain to reach the seventh spot in the all-time scoring list with a three-pointer in Portland on January 9. The Rockets lost the matchup 111-105, but Durant shared his feelings about the achievement. He said:
“To be amongst the greats is always an honor. Wilt is somebody I studied and tried to look up to as much as I can, a player like that. Like I always say, he set a standard for NBA players and (I’m) grateful to reach that — and inspired by what he produced for the game of basketball.”
The Rockets are 23-15 till now and rank sixth in the Western Conference. After the team lost in the first round of the postseason against the Warriors, the team management brought the veteran in to try to solve the offensive woes.
It’s still a long way to the playoffs for now, and the Rockets would have to trust their squad and keep making winning plays if they want to repeat a regular-season run like last season.
