“Just Wait for Butler to Get Traded and Then Take #10”: Warriors Fans Split Over Jimmy Butler’s Lighthearted $25M Demand to Rookie LaJae Jones as Trade Rumors Heat Up

When former Florida State forward Lajae Jones was drafted 54th overall by the Golden State Warriors, he joined a team that had Jimmy Butler last season. Even if Jones secures a roster spot for the 2025-26 campaign, it’s possible that he might not play alongside Butler, given that the six-time All-Star has figured in trade talks this year.

That didn’t stop Jones from touching base with Butler for an important agenda: securing the use of the No. 10 jersey in Golden State. In a viral clip, Jones gets on a video chat with Butler, who jokingly proposes a price for the jersey number.

“For $25 million, you can have my number…You’re going to make way more than that in your career, though.”

Reacting to this viral clip, fans had a number of suggestions for Jones.

It’s been a while since the No. 10 jersey saw action in the Bay Area. Back in mid-January, Butler suffered a season-ending ACL injury in a Warriors-Heat game.

Even as Butler focused on his recovery, rumors have been swirling about his expiring contract getting thrown into a trade package. For now, Butler remains a Warrior, which means that Jones will have to consider other jersey numbers.

Report: Warriors Considering a Jimmy Butler-Anthony Davis Trade Amidst LBJ Buzz

For what it’s worth, NBA insider Kevin O’Connor is reporting that the Warriors could be looking to include Jimmy Butler in a package to acquire Anthony Davis. O’Connor added that this would be the prelude to the signing of LeBron James.

“Sources say the Warriors hope adding Davis would help lure LeBron from Los Angeles to the Bay Area once free agency officially opens Tuesday,” O’Connor wrote on Sunday.

This report is the latest in a hot streak of speculations surrounding the arrival of James in Golden State, the same franchise that he faced four consecutive times in the NBA Finals.
