“He’s Cheesing Hard”: Lakers Fans Sense Potential Jonathan Kuminga Trade is in Progress After Shams Charania’s Comment

ESPN insider Shams Charania’s latest report on the Los Angeles Lakers-Jonathan Kuminga trade rumors sparked buzz among fans on Tuesday. Charania didn’t provide fresh details, but the way he presented the situation during an appearance on former NBA player Iman Shumpert’s podcast, “Shump Street X LEGENDZ,” had fans speculating.

Shumpert said he “thought” Kuminga had gone to LA already, but Charania fact-checked him, saying:

    “That’s not done, yet.”

Charania also let out a smile while discussing the situation. SM Highlights shared a clip of the moment on X:

While it did not appear to be a substantial report, fans read into Charania’s “yet” comment and his facial expressions.

Lakers’ addition of Ziaire Williams won’t derail Jonathan Kuminga Pursuit: Shams Charania

The Los Angeles Lakers addressed their wing depth by signing Ziaire Williams to a one-year contract on Monday. It raised questions about their ability to sign Jonathan Kuminga, as they had filled all 15 roster spots with Williams’ addition. However, ESPN’s Shams Charania, who reported the Williams signing, said it doesn’t end LA’s pursuit of Kuminga.

“Lakers reach a deal with Williams and CAA Co-Head of Basketball Aaron Mintz to address their wing depth — and LA continues to strongly pursue Jonathan Kuminga as a potential starting forward, sources tell ESPN,” Charania said.

The Lakers can still trade players and make space for Kuminga. Jarred Vanderbilt is considered the likeliest piece who could be involved in a potential deal. While Kuminga is a free agent, the Lakers can sign-and-trade for him with the Atlanta Hawks, who declined a team option on the forward this offseason.
