Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.’s comments on finalizing the roster had fans speculating that LeBron James may have agreed to join the franchise. Dunleavy prompted speculation with his comments during Tuesday’s Summer League action.
“We’re getting close to finalizing the roster here,” Dunleavy told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
McMenamin asked whether it was just about re-signing free agent Draymond Green or moves beyond that, and Dunleavy had a teasing response.
“We’ll see,” he said.
The Warriors were the hot favorites at the start of free agency to land James. The buzz faded over the next few days, but picked up steam since Saturday, with Green and James spending time together on vacation. Green admitted to making a recruiting pitch to James, while Steph Curry has also publicly expressed his intent to play with his greatest rival.
With ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater suggesting Golden State is in the race to sign the 41-year-old James, Dunleavy’s comments only reinforced that hope among Warriors fans waiting for a major move this offseason.

LeBron James is inching closer to making a decision. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, James is reviewing all his options after getting information from his agent, Rich Paul, on suitors’ pitches.
“This could be any day, any week now,” Charania said on Tuesday on NBA Today.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ big three of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown have reportedly been in touch with James. Meanwhile, the Warriors are rumored to be “very much in the game” to sign him.
The Heat and Cavaliers’ links also remain strong, so it’s likely going to be a race to the finish line for all interested teams.
