Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, and his status for Thursday’s matchup against the LA Lakers is questionable. The Lakers will be the last opponent the Warriors face at Chase Center before closing out the regular season with two road games.
It’s been a year defined by adversity, with injuries testing Curry and the Warriors at every turn, but they’ve somehow managed to secure a slim chance at making the playoffs. They’re the 10th seed and must win the two play-in games on the road to advance to the postseason.
Curry has been playing under a minutes restriction off the bench in the past two games. He logged 26 minutes in his return from a 27-game absence due to a knee injury in a 117-116 loss to the Rockets on Sunday. He finished with 29 points, four assists, and two rebounds. In the next game, he played 25 minutes in a 110-105 win over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. He recorded 17 points, five rebounds and two assists. That win ended Golden State’s four-game losing streak, including three at home.
Curry is most likely to play, barring any late setbacks. He’s expected to remain on a 25-minute restriction as well. However, he may sit out one or both of the final two road games to stay well-rested for the play-in tournament.
The 38-year-old has still got it and continues to play at an elite level. When looking at the Warriors’ roster, he is easily one of their most important players, so they need him at his best if they want to move past the play-in round. It will be fascinating to see how the team manages his workload and what kind of performance Curry can put together in the final stretch.
Steph Curry Stats vs Lakers
Steph Curry has averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.0 assists against the Lakers in 48 games. He’s been on the winning side 27 times. Curry has played only one of the three previous games between the Warriors and Lakers this season. He scored 23 points in a 119-109 win in Los Angeles on Oct. 21. The Warriors lost the other two matchups, 105-99 and 129-101.
If Curry plays, the Warriors’ chances of winning the game are higher, as the Lakers are equally banged up with injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. They enter the contest amid a three-game slide, most recently a 123-87 loss to the OKC Thunder on Tuesday.
