New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson’s status for Monday’s game will be a cause for concern for the team’s fans. Brunson is listed as questionable to play against the Dallas Mavericks. He last played in Wednesday’s 112-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings.
Brunson only saw the floor for five minutes that night before rolling his ankle and missing the remainder of the game. His injury could not come at a worse time, as the Knicks are in the midst of one of their toughest stretches this season.
The team is on a three-game losing streak and has lost eight of its last 10 games. This rough stretch has seen the Knicks (25-17) fall to third place in the Eastern Conference. Entering 2026, the team was in second place with a 23-9 record.
New York will miss their star guard’s contributions, as he is averaging 28.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game, shooting 48.1%. Josh Hart is also listed as questionable for Monday’s game.
If Brunson sits out, the team will look toward Karl-Anthony Towns to carry a heavier load. He has been solid this season, averaging 20.9 ppg, 11.5 rpg and 2.9 apg.
New York will also need bigger contributions from Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby. Bridges is averaging 16.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg. Anunoby has also been solid, recording 16.0 ppg and 5.5 rpg.
While the Knicks could be without one of their best players, their opponents don’t have it much better.
Daniel Gafford, D’Angelo Russell, P.J. Washington, Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, Kyrie Irving and Dante Exum are all out against New York. Lastly, Cooper Flagg is listed as questionable.

Jalen Brunson started his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks after the team drafted him in the second round of the 2018 draft.
He has played four games against them since being traded to New York in 2022. Brunson averages 27.0 points, 5.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds against his old team.
