While the Minnesota Timberwolves are enjoying a dominant playoff run thus far, the team might have to do it without Anthony Edwards for some time. The Wolves’ explosive guard took a hard fall in the second quarter of Game 4 after trying to defend a layup by Cam Johnson. And now, a damning update by Shams Charania has the Wolves’ hopes up in the air.
Edwards has been instrumental in the postseason against the third-seeded Denver Nuggets, averaging 18.5 points thus far. In the last game, he was sidelined after playing just 18 minutes, as he was visibly in pain after falling awkwardly on the floor. ESPN analyst Shams Charania shared the update on his injury on X and wrote:
“Just in: Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has sustained a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee and is expected to miss multiple weeks, sources tell ESPN. Results showed Edwards avoided any ligament damage, but he will now miss time.”
The update highlights that Edwards might miss multiple weeks due to his knee injury. However, the Wolves lead Round 1, 3-1, and might not need the services of the guard. The team’s medical staff would surely try to advance his recovery for Round 2.
Even after Edwards went to the locker room in the second quarter, the Wolves won the game on the back of a stellar game from Ayo Dosunmu. The guard scored 43 points off the bench and was sort of a one-man army on the floor. He perfectly capitalized on the opportunity and brought home another win for the franchise. However, Edwards was not the only one to be sidelined after Game 4.
Besides Anthony Edwards, Donte DiVincenzo suffers brutal injury
Although the Minnesota Timberwolves won the game, they lost two crucial pieces to injuries. After attempting a 3-pointer at the beginning of the game, Donte DiVincenzo tried to grab the rebound of his missed shot and tore his Achilles tendon in the process. Just 79 seconds into the game, he looked in pain and went to the locker room.
After the game, Shams Charania shared her injury update on X and gave a sad verdict for the Wolves fans:
“Donte DiVincenzo’s season is over with a lengthy recovery. Devastating blow for the Timberwolves starting guard.”
The playoffs have just begun, but the Wolves’ road to the finals will be filled with struggles after the two updates. For now, the team will focus on getting another win and sealing the series as soon as possible. Only time will tell if Anthony Edwards will be seen on the floor again in this postseason.
