This summer, fans of the San Antonio Spurs watched their team return to the NBA Finals for the first time in 12 years. With Victor Wembanyama leading the charge, the Spurs fanbase is counting on deep playoff runs for the foreseeable future.
It was not a pleasant sight, then, to see the Spurs center in a precarious situation during the offseason. In an Instagram reel posted by Bleacher Report, Wembanyama is seen slipping while playing a pickup game of soccer in Katy, Texas.
Fortunately for Spurs fans, Bleacher Report captioned this post with the reassurance that their star player is “ok.”
For the most part, health was not a concern for Wembanyama this past season. Though there were concerns that he would not be able to hit the 65-game threshold for awards eligibility, his appearance in the finals of the NBA Cup ultimately became his saving grace as it counted as a regular season game.
With the exception of Game 3 against the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round (when he was sidelined due to concussion protocols), Wembanyama made his presence felt in every game during the Spurs’ playoff stint. Despite the two-time All-Star’s stellar performance on both ends of the floor, the Spurs came up short in the Finals against the New York Knicks.
Now that the Spurs have reached the doorstep of championship glory after several years, fans are expecting Wembanyama and his crew to remain contenders for the next few seasons. As such, seeing Wembanyama have an accidental slip is the last thing they want to see.

Though Victor Wembanyama had a bit of fun with the pickup game of soccer, he is nevertheless putting in the work to hone his basketball skills this season. This includes getting mentorship from one of the greatest NBA centers of all time.
In a viral clip posted by NBA agent Richard Felder, Wemby can be seen standing next to two-time NBA champion Hakeem Olajuwon as they pose for a picture.
Olajuwon was renowned for his impeccable footwork and intricate post moves, skills that helped him lead the Houston Rockets to back-to-back NBA titles. It will be interesting, then, to see how the transfer of knowledge will benefit Wembanyama next season.
