“So He’s Worth More Than Giannis?”: Fans Erupt as Celtics Reportedly Set Sizable Asking Price for Jaylen Brown

Trade rumors between the Boston Celtics and Jaylen Brown continue to intensify, with a new report revealing exactly what the 18-time champions are seeking in return.

Brown’s future appears likely to be over in Beantown, according to the league’s most respected insiders. The saga has dominated NBA headlines throughout the offseason, but the conversation escalated heavily following the failed attempt that ultimately sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. With another franchise cornerstone changing teams, attention has once again shifted toward Boston and its star, Jaylen Brown.

On Friday, ESPN Insider Shams Charania delivered his strongest comments yet regarding Brown’s future during a segment on Get Up.

“My understanding is, in some cases, the Celtics have asked teams for at least four first-round picks for Jaylen Brown,” Charania said.

With Brown being a former NBA Finals MVP coming off a strong season, it is understandable that the Celtics are looking to land a massive return for him. This is especially true given that Boston wants to cash in while he is still in his prime.

Furthermore, Brown, Jayson Tatum and Derrick White took up almost 88% of the Celtics’ total salary cap last season, meaning the front office needs to trim down expenses to field a strong, sustainable roster for the future.

However, fans on X (formerly Twitter) were left completely stunned by the asking price, triggering some highly intriguing reactions. Here is a look at some of the best:

Western Conference Team Reportedly Expresses Interest in Jaylen Brown

If the Celtics decide to trade Jaylen Brown, the Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly a team that has serious interest in acquiring his services.

According to Shams Charania, the Trail Blazers are a primary team to watch on the trade market in pursuit of the five-time All-Star if Boston ultimately chooses to move him.

“The majority of Boston’s conversations have been with Western Conference teams,” Charania said. “Portland has had a lot of interest in Jaylen Brown, and they have a ton of draft capital.”

At 29 years old, Brown fits well into the Trail Blazers’ roster layout. The 2016 third overall pick could deeply benefit from a fresh start.

Brown signed a massive five-year, $303.7 million supermax extension in 2023, meaning he would command a haul of premier assets in return. This past season, he put up stellar numbers, averaging a career-high 28.7 points per game.

With his name resurfacing in the rumor mill for what feels like the third time in the past five years, all signs currently point to Brown wearing a different jersey on opening night in October, but a lot can still happen between now and then.
