The Los Angeles Lakers’ fans are waiting for Luka Doncic’s return to the roster, especially after their Round 2 Game 1 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers cruised through Round 1 in a closeout Game 6, but have faced a tough challenge from the table-toppers. The team needs the services of the Slovenian guard, but an NBA analyst has given disappointing prospects of his return.
In Game 1, LeBron James led the team once again with 27 points, four rebounds, and six assists, but it was a dismal night for Austin Reaves. He shot 3-16 from the field and missed five 3-pointers to contribute just eight points. The 2018-19 season Rookie of the Year has not played any games in the playoffs this season.
NBA analyst Brian Windhorst said on Get Up ESPN that Doncic might not be seen on the court for the foreseeable future. He added:
“I don’t think the Lakers have been under the delusion he’s coming back. I think they’ve gone into this series knowing he’s not going to be there…. Everyday here in LA people are asking ‘when is Luka coming back’, you can push that aside.”
Fans would not be pleased with such updates, as they need Doncic to overcome the top seed of the Western Conference. Even though the medical staff has tried to speed up the process of his recovery, the shifty guard might take more time in the series to return to the team.
“They say eight weeks,” Luka Doncic gives uncertain timeline to his return
Luka Doncic spoke to the media recently and answered questions about his recovery and timeline on his return to the team. When asked what he was doing in Spain, he mentioned that he was there for PRP (Plasma-Rich Plasma). He added that Spain was best for PRP. He said:
“I’m just in the process, i’m working every day. I feel better every day. Like I said, in the beginning they say eight weeks. So we just go from there.”
If the Lakers need time with the Slovenian’s recovery, Reaves will have to be up and ready for the job, alongside James. The King has showcased elite leadership and dominant performance in the playoffs thus far. If the team wants to continue its postseason run, LBJ and Reaves will have to play at the highest level and set the tone on both ends of the floor.
