“Half of Them Fouls Or Goaltends”: Fans Unimpressed Despite Victor Wembanyama Shattering Record For Most Blocks in an NBA Playoffs Game

Victor Wembanyama shattered the record for most blocks in an NBA playoffs game in the Spurs’ 2026 NBA playoffs conference semis series opener against the Timberwolves on Monday. Just over a minute in the fourth quarter, Wembanyama recorded his 11th block of the night to break the previous record held by Andrew Bynum, Hakeem Olajuwon and Mark Eaton, who had 10 each.

Wembanyama’s blocking spree started in the first quarter, when he recorded three blocks. Wembanyama added four more by halftime, taking his total to seven. The Timberwolves had no way around at the rim, where they scored over 50% of their points in the first round with Nikola Jokic protecting the basket.

However, Wembanyama single-handedly changed the Timberwolves’ scoring patterns, forcing them to play more on the outside.

Victor Wembanyama had more blocks than points scored when he got his 11th swat of the night on Anthony Edwards. He only had eight points on four made field goals. Despite the massive achievement, several fans criticized Wembanyama, claiming that most of his recorded blocked shots were goaltends or fouls. Here’s how the fans reacted:

“Half of em fouls or goal tends,” one fan said.

“3 are fouls and 1 is a goaltend,” another wrote.

“That s**t hit the back glass and they don’t call it lmao stop it,” one fan added.

“Half are goaltends and fouls but Adam silver likes his little rigged league partnered up with betting apps,” one fan wrote.

“4 goaltendings but carry on,” another said.

Victor Wembanyama and Spurs struggle offensively in Game 1

While Victor Wembanyama was unparalleled on the defensive end, he and his team struggled to produce spectacular results offensively against the Timberwolves. Wembanyama managed only 11 points on 5 of 17 shots. He was 0-for-8 from deep. San Antonio collectively didn’t shoot as well as it would have liked from deep, going 10 of 36 from deep.

The Spurs also generated 12 fewer shots than their opponents until late in the game. The ball moved around for the Spurs, but they also had multiple careless turnovers. The Spurs turned it over 13 times while the Timberwolves had eight with four minutes left in the game.

The Spurs lost 104-102 after Julian Champagnie bricked the game-winning attempt from deep down two. San Antonio did well to recover after trailing by six with 1:19 left, but couldn’t execute down the stretch.
