Grizzlies Reporter Claims Ja Morant Wants Out After Parents’ $3.5M Mansion Gets Listed For Sale

The Memphis Grizzlies’ 2025-2026 season has been a major letdown, with the team falling short of even the play-in spots in the Western Conference. With only a few games left, it seems like frustration has reached a breaking point for Ja Morant, who is now reportedly ready to move on from the franchise following a seven-year stint.

Fueling the speculation, Morant’s parents’ mansion was listed for sale at $3.5 million. Not long after, Grizzlies beat reporter Joe Mullinax added more weight to the rumors by confirming that a split could be coming.

“He wants out, and he’s not wrong to feel that way. As I said on the show this week. It’s time to move on. For all involved, it’s best now,” Mullianx wrote.

Ja Morant’s early years in Memphis were promising, as he quickly established himself as the face of the franchise from his rookie season through 2022-2023. Since then, though, things have taken a turn. Off-court issues led to an eight-game suspension for flashing a gun on Instagram Live, followed by a much longer 25-game suspension after another similar incident in May 2023.

Injuries have only made matters worse. Across the 2023-2024 and 2025-2026 seasons, Morant has appeared in just 79 games. During that stretch, the Grizzlies have managed to reach the postseason only once, where they were swept in the first round of the 2025 playoffs.

Given everything that has transpired over the past three years, a fresh start might be exactly what Morant needs to reset and get his career back on track.

Former NBA player believes Ja Morant could thrive in Miami

Ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, the Miami Heat had emerged as a serious contender to pursue Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies. After Terry Rozier’s suspension due to a gambling scandal, the team needed a reliable point guard.

In the end, Morant remained in Memphis and no deal was completed during the season.

Now, with the possibility of Morant becoming available again, former NBA player Joe Johnson believes Miami should make a strong push to land him. He feels the move could benefit both sides, with Morant having the chance to grow under Pat Riley’s leadership.

“I think he would thrive in that Miami situation,” Johnson said. “Pat Riley is going to have a real one-on-one conversation with him… If you apply it, the sky will be the limit for this kid again.”

The Heat have enough assets to put together a compelling offer. Players like Andrew Wiggins, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Davion Mitchell, and Nikola Jovic could be included, along with potential draft picks to strengthen the deal.
