Luka Doncic has been away from the spotlight, enjoying the offseason back home in Slovenia. However, he returned with a bombshell take that has raised several eyebrows. Doncic and LeBron James developed a bond playing together for more than one season in Los Angeles, and the guard expressed his respect and appreciation for the forward on several occasions. So, it enraged fans when the Slovenian chose his European counterpart over his former teammate.
On a rapid-fire interview on Monday, Doncic was featured in a “this or that” section with Instagram user Klemen Kopina, where he made sme quick choices. He chose Jokic over most of the players who featured on the list, except Larry Bird and Michael Jordan. When the question arose between “Jokic or LeBron,” he simply picked:
“Jokic”
Doncic changed his choice only in front of Larry Bird and dropped the Boston legend when the host kept him against the Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan. However, fans reacted to the guard not picking James, as one believed that it would impact his reputation with the Lakers:
“Lebron FC about to hate watch him to another level now”
Another user believed that it was a “spicy” choice:
“Jokic over LeBron is spicy, but Luka knows that game better than anyone.”
This user drew a simple conclusion:
“Jokic over Bron ? Yeah he hate that nigga”
One more user believed that Doncic’s take was “real”:
“Luka exposing LeBron like that is so real, and now his fans will whine for weeks. This is why most dudes ruin sports with their drama”
Another fan felt that Doncic’s picks were “correct”:
“Luka knows ball. All answers were correct, with the possible exception of what year Shaq are we talking? 2000 Shaq? It’s Shaq over Joker.”
James and Doncic played a lot of games together in the 2025-26 season, and their chemistry looked good. However, the Lakers guard was consistently criticized for constantly crying to the officials during games.
Analyst reports Luka Doncic wanted the Lakers to re-sign Rui Hachimura
Even though Luka Doncic and LeBron James’ relationship came into question among fans, the Slovenian reportedly made it clear to the franchise that he wanted Rui Hachimura on the squad. However, the free agent signed a two-year, $28 million contract with the LA Clippers this offseason.
The Athletic analyst Law Murray shared the report on X:
“I’m told that Rui Hachimura was on the Luka Doncic preferred return list”
Meanwhile, the Lakers have offloaded more free agents this offseason and might look to add more defenders around Doncic, as the analyst pointed out. The front office has yet to make its decisions.
