“Got Traded and His Feelings Got Hurt”: Lakers Fans Slam Anthony Davis For Claiming 2020 Bubble Championship Didn’t Feel “Real”

Anthony Davis helped the LA Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship in his first year with the team. With Davis teaming up with LeBron James, the franchise ended a nine-year title drought during the COVID-19-induced Bubble Tournament in Florida.

On “The Draymond Green Show” on Wednesday, Davis said that he still has doubts about that title run. AD called it “probably the hardest championship” but added that he wanted the “real experience” of lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy under normal circumstances.

One fan reacted to Davis’ comment:

“Got traded and his feelings got hurt. This is the most stupid thing to come out from a player.”

    Another fan added:

“That’s because he sucks and is a nobody. Just saying.”

    One more fan commented:

“Draymond laughing in his head the whole time.”

    Another fan continued:

“Bron gonna get this ni**a arrested.”

    One fan tweeted:

“Klutch checks ain’t cashing AD??? Lmaoo.”

The pandemic forced the NBA to salvage the season by holding a tournament at Walt Disney World in Florida. Players gave mixed reviews to the league’s decision to continue the season inside the secured tourist destination.

Some analysts and fans have urged the NBA to put an asterisk next to the LA Lakers’ championship due to the uniquely strange situation. Anthony Davis isn’t going to that length, but he repeatedly asked himself in the podcast if he had truly won the championship.

Davis averaged 25.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists in the 2020 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. He received finals MVP consideration, but the award went to LeBron James.

Anthony Davis Has Had Limited Playoff Success Outside of 2020 NBA Championship Run

The playoffs have not been good to Anthony Davis.

In his first postseason appearance, the then-New Orleans Pelicans star was swept by the Golden State Warriors in 2015. Three seasons later, he led the Pelicans to a 4-0 win in the first round against the Portland Trail Blazers. AD’s playoff run ended in the next round after losing 1-4 to the Warriors.

Davis’ next postseason appearance was in 2020 when he helped carry the Lakers to the championship.

In 2021, the Lakers failed to defend the championship, losing in five games to the Phoenix Suns in the first round. The following season was a catastrophic campaign for the star-studded Lakers, who added Russell Westbrook. Despite the stacked roster, they failed to make the playoffs.

In 2023, Anthony Davis and Co. reached the Western Conference finals but were swept by Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. In 2024, Jokic and his teammates continued to hammer LA, sending the team out in five first-round games.
