Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks may be running mates on the Canadian national team, but in this year’s NBA playoffs, their extreme competitiveness has taken center stage. Now, another world-renowned Canadian has been roped into their social media exchange as the Thunder soak in their first-round sweep of the Suns.
Shortly after OKC defeated Phoenix 131-122 in Game 4 Monday night, Gilgeous-Alexander appeared to take a shot at Brooks on Instagram with a post about villains.
“everybody wants to be villainous until the brooms come out & the dust settles & you realize who the villain is”
While no one was surprised that Brooks posted a response (“Sounds like a ghost writer – The Villain”), hip hop icon Drake made a cameo appearance in this IG converation.
“wipe down,” Drake commented, seemingly hyping up SGA’s subliminal diss.
Drake’s involvement in this banter between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks drew some hilarious responses from fans.
“The ghost writer in theory is the comment right below his”
“Say ghost writing three times in a mirror and drake appears”
“Lol dillion brooks took drake b**** so sounds appropriate”
“Why is drake d*** riding sga”
“Real ones know this was a shot at Drake”
“The drake beef still goin lol”
It will be recalled that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander appeared in the music video for Drake’s song “Nokia,” which was released in late March 2025. With Drake continuing to wage war against his hip hop contemporary Kendrick Lamar, the “In My Feelings” rapper covered up his tattoo of LeBron James (a reputed Kendrick fan) with a tattoo of SGA’s jersey.
From the looks of it, SGA has become buddies with Drake, who decided to laugh along as the reigning NBA MVP took shots at his vanquished Canadian compatriot.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Opens Up on Scouting Second-Round Opponent After OKC Completes Sweep of Suns
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the rest of the Thunder have made short work of the Suns, and now it’s on to the second round for the defending champions.
After the buzzer sounded in Game 4, SGA admitted that he’s been keeping tabs on his team’s side of the playoff bracket.
“I’ve already been watching all of the Lakers-Houston series, so I’ll just continue to do so.”
The Lakers lead the Rockets 3-1 in this series, and the purple and gold squad will get another chance to close things out in Game 5 on Wednesday.
