NBA superstar Kevin Durant watched Paul Skenes lead Team USA to a 5-3 win against Mexico in the World Baseball Classic on Monday. KD praised the 2025 NL Cy Young Award winner, who struck out seven in four scoreless innings.
After the game, Durant called the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher a “dawg.” Durant’s message was greeted with jabs from fans after KD stayed off X following his burner account controversy.
One fan wrote:
“Bro tweeting like the DOJ didn’t release the KD files two weeks ago.”
Another fan added:
“Ni**a came back talking baseball.”
One more fan continued:
“No, no, no. Give us the real tweet, bro, come on now. You know we don’t care about some ‘Skenes.'”
Another fan commented:
“Just don’t roast him on your group chat.”
One fan tweeted:
“Paul doesn’t talk bad about his teammates like you, Kevin.”
Tweets from Kevin Durant’s alleged burner account caused a social media storm just a few hours before the 2026 All-Star Game in mid-February. Some of the messages made disparaging remarks about former and current teammates of the two-time NBA Finals MVP.
Durant fueled more controversy when he refused to deny ownership of the account. Before the Houston Rockets started playing post the All-Star break, KD told reporters that he wouldn’t answer questions about “Twitter nonsense.”
Kevin Durant tried to lay low after the controversial clips blew up. He mostly re-shared posts until late last month when he commented on the uniforms of college basketball teams. Durant specifically mentioned the “threads” of the Texas Longhorns.
That post and his message about Paul Skenes were unsurprisingly bombarded with shots to mock him about the controversial and so-called KD Files.
Kevin Durant Attended USA vs Mexico World Baseball Classic Showdown
Kevin Durant didn’t just watch Team USA host Mexico on Monday. With the showdown at Daikin Park in Houston, the Rockets’ superstar attended the game to cheer for the home team.
The “Slim Reaper” looked comfortable after the Americans took a 5-0 lead after Roman Anthony sent the ball to the second deck. Anthony’s blast added three more runs, giving the favorites more cushion.
Durant couldn’t be more impressed by Team USA’s performance in Group B’s most highly anticipated matchup.
