Draymond Green Faces ‘Slap in the Face’ Criticism for Coming to Bronny James’ Defense as Ex-NBA Guard Slams Financial Privilege

Draymond Green came out in defense of LeBron James and his son, Bronny James, talking about the Jeanie Buss controversy on his podcast. Former NBA player Charlie Villanueva and Theo Pinson slammed Green’s comments on their show and opened up about Bronny’s skill set as an NBA player.

On The Draymond Green Show, the Warriors forward addressed the Jeanie Buss-LeBron James controversy and believed that Bronny James was not solely selected because of his father. He said that Bronny was a high recruit himself, and he made a name for himself.

However, former NBA player Theo Pinson did not agree with the argument. Talking on the latest episode of ‘To The Baha’ podcast, the hosts discussed Green’s statement and shared thoughts on the Lakers youngster. Pinson said:

“Let’s call it what it is…Its a slap in the face when you come out, just let it be… I am not gonna say he doesn’t deserve to be in the NBA because at the end of the day, he has NBA athleticism. This ni*** just said Bronny was two times an athlete I ever were. You have lost your fuc**** mind if you think he was more athletic than I was.”

The former Dallas Mavericks guard also compared his position to what Bronny James has got right after college, and the money and privilege that he allegedly enjoyed due to his father. Pinson added:

“You could play more freely when you have that guaranteed deal. When you play contract to contract, and you gotta play damn near perfect every time you play, that’s a different type of pressure. If I gotta a four-year guaranteed deal right out of college, I would still be in the league, no doubt about it.”

Bronny James’ selection in the 2024 NBA draft by the Lakers was a controversial decision that has led to several debates about him. However, Green has often been appreciative of the young forward and expressed his thoughts openly about Bronny.

“Imma take the bet on that,” Draymond Green expressed his feelings on Bronny James

The above-mentioned episode was not the only time Draymond Green talked about LeBron James’ son, Bronny James. Before the season, the Warriors forward clarified his stance on the young player and bet that he would become one of the best from his draft class of 2024.

    Green said:

“I actually think Bronny is going to end up being a better pro than a lot of these players in his draft because has the athleticism, has the basketball IQ, plays the game the right way. I think he is going to be a good shooter in the NBA. Works hard, which he does, and he has LeBron James DNA, Imma take that bet.”

Bronny James is part of the NBA rookie squad and also plays in the G League for the South Bay Lakers. In the minor league, last season, the forward averaged 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in seven games.

This season, Bronny has played six games, averaging 9.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
