Draymond Green Defends Deandre Ayton Amid Growing Scrutiny Over Lakers Locker Room Friction

Draymond Green came to the defense of Los Angeles Lakers center DeAndre Ayton amid reported tensions in the team’s locker room.

Ayton was criticized for his performance in the Lakers-Suns game on Thursday. Threads account @bluui shared a clip of Ayton on the platform, drawing criticism to the center.

Green replied to the post and came to the defense of Ayton, pushing back against the narrative, citing the Lakers center’s basketball knowledge.

“I’m sure some criticism is due at times,” Green wrote. “But to criticize a center for moving like this, shows the collective level of basketball knowledge on this internet! He literally made 6 different efforts! Possibly 7 if you count the initial sprint to close out.”

Ayton finished the game with two points and four rebounds. He is averaging 13.0 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, shooting 66.5%. He started the season strong, but has drawn significant criticism lately amid the Lakers’ recent struggles.

The team is holding sixth place in the Western Conference with a 34-26 record. Los Angeles has lost three games in a row and is 5-5 over its last 10 matchups.

During Tuesday’s Lakers-Magic game, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that Ayton was heard shouting at the end of the 110-109 loss, saying:

“They’re trying to make me Clint Capela. I’m not no Clint Capela.”

This comment has led to even more criticism for the Lakers center, with fans suggesting that the team would benefit more if Ayton’s play were similar to Capela’s.

Clint Capela also called out DeAndre Ayton for his reported comment, following the Lakers’ loss against the Magic on Tuesday. He cited how Ayton plays with some of the best floor generals in the game.

“U got two of the best floor generals in the game, my dawg,” Capela wrote. “Lockinnn.”

Capela is in his 12th season in the NBA, playing for the Houston Rockets. He has played 716 games, averaging 11.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks for his career. Capela has played for the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks.
