Hours before the 2026 All-Star competition on Sunday, LeBron James held a separate press conference, choosing to skip the media availability that his fellow All-Stars had attended the day before. While NBA fans paid close attention to this press conference for updates regarding his impending retirement, James’ response to an entirely different question has managed to go viral.
During LBJ’s media session, a journalist for an Israel-based news outlet asked the LA Lakers superstar to send a message to Israeli fans. Here’s what James had to say:
I’ve never been there. If I have fans over there, I hope I’ve inspired people over there to not only be great in sports, but just be better in life. Hopefully, someday, I can make it over there. I’ve heard nothing but great things.”
On the one hand, LeBron James’ comments about inspiring others are not surprising in the least, as he has long embraced the role of global NBA icon that millions of fans look up to.
On the other hand, his praise for Israel is not a new phenomenon, either. After the Hamas attack on Israel in November 2023, James and his business partner Maverick Carter tweeted a message of support for the country.
The devastation in Israel is tragic and unacceptable. The murder and violence against innocent people by Hamas is terrorism.
The renowned figure that he is, LeBron James will almost certainly face backlash for his comments involving Israel, a controversial entity on the world stage.
LeBron James Gives Cryptic Update on Retirement From NBA Hours Before All-Star Game
As for the highly anticipated update on his retirement, LeBron James sent a cryptic message for fans to decipher.
I wanna live. When I know, you guys will know. I have no idea. I just want to live.
Even before this season, the NBA community has been speculating about whether the 2025-26 campaign will be the last for the 41-year-old James.
