With so much at stake in the Western Conference Finals, fans of both the Thunder and the Spurs have gone to extreme lengths to showcase their support for their respective teams. Apparently, this includes the act of cosplaying.
A viral tweet by the parody account NBA Centel shows a clip of two male fans “dressed up as nuns” as they watch Game 5 at Paycom Center. The tweet claims that these two individuals are OKC supporters.
The parody account, however, seems to have distorted the facts. Other news outlets are reporting that these fans are, in fact, Spurs fans.
This makes more sense, as a group of nuns went viral in the previous game of this series. Back in Game 4, the internet was buzzing about a photo of the Salesian Sisters in attendance at Frost Bank Center. According to the Salesian Sisters’ website, their mission includes connecting with the youth through the vessel of sports.
Before Game 4 tipped off, the sisters were seen giving a blessing to Spurs center Luke Kornet. The Spurs went on to handily beat the Thunder 103-82 to tie the series at 2-2.
It would seem, then, that the two cosplaying fans are trying to bless the Spurs in their own way as control of the series hangs in the balance in Game 5. If the Spurs become the first road team to prevail in the Western Conference Finals, they’ll have a chance to close things out in San Antonio.
Viral Clip Shows Victor Wembanyama Bumping Chet Holmgren During Thunder-Spurs Clash in Game 5
There is nothing reverential, however, in the way Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren have treated each other in this Thunder-Spurs series.
During a lull in the action of Game 5, Wembanyama was seen bumping Holmgren on his way back to the Spurs bench.
At halftime of Game 5, Holmgren had outplayed Wembanyama, putting up 12 points and six boards to the MVP finalist’s 11 points and one rebound.
