The NBA Finals didn’t exactly go in De’Aaron Fox’s favor, and now, there are speculations that the San Antonio Spurs will be looking to move on from him in the offseason. The Fox trade rumors, however, hit a snag on Monday, thanks to one insider’s report.
Appearing on Monday’s “SportsCenter,” Brian Windhorst stated that the Spurs currently have no plans to ship away the two-time NBA All-Star.
“I know there’s a lot of interesting in whether they might do something with De’Aaron Fox, but they are committed to him right now as their franchise point guard. And I think they will remain that way.”
In the aftermath of Fox’s subpar performance in Games 4 and 5, rumors of his departure from San Antonio picked up in earnest. The veteran guard has already been linked to teams like the Orlando Magic and the Brooklyn Nets.
Fox, who joined the Spurs via a three-team trade in February 2025, saw a dip in his production during the playoffs. After averaging 18.6 points per game on 48.6% shooting from the field, Fox dropped to 15.6 ppg on a 41.4% clip.
Unfortunately for Fox, his blunders in the Finals have resonated more than his statistical contributions to the Spurs’ cause. With his team up by one in the final moments of Game 4, Fox went for a fastbreak layup off a Jalen Brunson miss, only to get blocked by OG Anunoby.
Then, in Game 5, the 6-foot-3 guard came up with just seven points as the Spurs lost 94-90 on their home floor.
Kendrick Perkins Calls for Spurs to Take Action on De’Aaron Fox: “They Have to Move on From Him Right Now”
On the other hand, some analysts believe the Spurs need to let go of De’Aaron Fox. Appearing on Monday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins gave some strongly worded advice to the Spurs organization.
“The biggest elephant in the room is, what are they gonna do with De’Aaron Fox? I strongly believe that they have to move on from him right now.”
Perkins added that it’s imperative for the Spurs to let Dylan Harper flourish by giving him Fox’s spot in the rotation.
