Charlotte Hornets NBA Playoffs Picture: Updated Standings, Best Case Scenario After Win Against Timberwolves (Apr. 5)

The Charlotte Hornets kicked off their two-game road trip with an impressive 122-108 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center, extending their winning streak to four games.

Even though Minnesota sits sixth in the Western Conference, Charlotte came in as the favorite, according to bookmakers. That had a lot to do with the Timberwolves missing Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels, two key pieces in their rotation.

With those absences, Julius Randle took on the scoring load and delivered 26 points. He got solid support from Bones Hyland, who added 18 points, while Rudy Gobert and Ayo Dosunmu chipped in 12 each. However, it was not enough to slow down the Hornets.

LaMelo Ball led the way and was undeniably the best player on the court, finishing with 35 points and eight assists. Miles Bridges played the perfect supporting role, recording 25 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists in a strong all-around performance.

Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller did not have their best shooting night, combining for just 18 points on 7-of-29 from the field. Even so, both made positive impacts in other ways, reflected in their box plus-minus numbers, +6 and +22, respectively.

Off the bench, Coby White also gave Charlotte a boost with 17 points, helping keep the momentum going throughout the game.

After spending most of the season hovering around the 9-10 spot, the Charlotte Hornets have finally improved to the eighth spot of the Eastern Conference after their win in Minneapolis on Sunday.

Now boasting a 43-36 record, the Hornets are closing in on the sixth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers and are within just one game of the playoff position. At the same time, the margin behind them is tight, with only a half-game lead over the #9 Orlando Magic and a 1.5-game edge over the #10 Miami Heat.

Charlotte Hornets playoffs picture: Remaining Schedule

The Charlotte Hornets are facing a very tough finish to their season. They have the hardest remaining schedule in the league, with their final three games coming against the top three teams in the Eastern Conference: the Boston Celtics, the Detroit Pistons, and the New York Knicks. These teams have a combined average win rate of 68.4%, highlighting just how difficult this stretch will be.

So far, the Hornets have been competitive only against the Celtics, with the season series currently tied at one game each. Against the Knicks, they trail 2-1, while the Pistons have already secured a 3-0 sweep.

With such strong opponents ahead, there is a real possibility that the Hornets could lose all of their remaining games. If that happens, they could slip to ninth or even tenth place in the Eastern Conference standings, potentially requiring them to win two consecutive games in the play-in tournament just to secure a spot in the playoffs.
