The NBA Draft Day is here, as the 2026 class of rookies is hyped to begin a new chapter, and AJ Dybantsa has already drawn parallels for his draftmate, Cameron Boozer. The two top picks of this year’s draft share a healthy relationship off the court, though they played for rival college teams. Before the draft began, Dybantsa already had a reason why Boozer seems like LeBron James of 2003.
The Los Angeles Lakers forward is surely one of the most successful top overall picks, who was selected in 2003. And now, Boozer is also on the same pedestal. The Duke Blue Devils forward is not known for his size, but he packs a serious offensive energy. He averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in his last NCAA season, shooting 39% from deep.
While Boozer’s numbers do remind one of a young James, Dybantsa gave a completely different reason for his similarity with the 2003 Draft James. He said:
“I think he look like Bron in ‘03.”
Dybantsa then took a closer look at his watch and said:
“Oh my god, alright, well we know who gets money.”
Boozer did take a page from LeBron James’ fashion book, as the rookie was draped in a similar white suit LBJ wore in 2003. Moreover, the league also has similar expectations for the rookie out of Duke, who can do everything on the court on both ends. The latest news from draft day is that the Washington Wizards have picked Dybantsa as their top pick this season.
Cameron Boozer Goes to Memphis on Draft Day
News has arrived from the 2026 NBA Draft event, and Cameron Boozer has been chosen by the Memphis Grizzlies with their third overall pick. While AJ Dybantsa was chosen as the top pick by the Washington Wizards, Darryn Peterson went second to Utah. When the team announced his name, Boozer seemed delighted, as he hugged his family and loved ones before proceeding to the stage.
The NBA shared the news on X with a video of the moment and wrote:
“WITH THE 3RD PICK IN THE 2026 NBA DRAFT
THE MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES SELECT
CAMERON BOOZER”
Boozer will be an instant addition to the Grizzlies’ offensive side, and the ailing squad will expect him to bring some positivity to the locker room. There have already been several rumors about Ja Morant’s availability for the next season.
However, with Boozer as the second option to space the floor, the 2019 NBA Draft’s second-overall pick might be lured to reconsider his decision. The two can make a lethal pick-and-roll pair for the franchise and contend for a title next season.
