The death of Brandon Clarke shocked the entire NBA community on Tuesday, and in the hours following this announcement, more details and speculations are emerging on the situation of the former Memphis Grizzlies forward.
As reported by Michael Babcock of TMZ Sports, drug overdose is one of the angles being considered by authorities as they investigate Clarke’s death.
“It’s unclear what exactly happened here, but this is being investigated as a potential overdose. Authorities found drug paraphernalia at the scene. Because of that, they are looking at an OD as a potential cause for the death of this young and otherwise really healthy person.”
Babcock added that Brandon Clarke, who was pronounced dead shortly after authorities found him at a Los Angeles residence Monday afternoon, had appeared to be in good spirits just days before his untimely demise.
“We talked to his barber, who was just with him on Friday night…As his hair was being cut, he and his barber were watching the NBA playoffs together. Nothing seemed to be wrong or out of the ordinary.”
Clarke, who has been hounded by lower body injuries over the past few seasons, played just two games in the 2025-26 campaign. Across seven seasons in the NBA, the former Gonzaga standout averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Clarke was 29 at the time of his passing.
