Los Angeles Lakers fans are accusing guard Austin Reaves of hating LeBron James for his comments during Bronny James’ interview after Friday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets.
James made history in that game, connecting with Bronny to record the first father-to-son assist in NBA history. After the game, James spoke to the media and shared a story about a one-on-one game in which he defeated his dad.
“The last time I played [LeBron] 1-on-1 – I don’t know if this story came out – but he broke a backboard at our house in Miami,” Bronny said.
Reaves interrupted, asking Bronny not to leave out the details of his win over LeBron.
“It was cause you won,” Reaves said. “Yeah! You can say that. Don’t leave that out.”
Fans took note of Reaves’ comments and responded in the post’s comments section, accusing him of being a LeBron James hater. While some criticized the guard, others criticized James. Here are the most noteworthy reactions on X:
“Austin hates LeFraud and wears it like a badge of honor and pride. Love this guy. Hate LeFraud expose his crap. He is a fraud,” one fan wrote.
“Look at how fast Austin turns his head when bronny says he doesn’t know if this story got out lmaoo,” a fan noted.“AR-15 with the setup and Bronny with the dagger 😂 LeBron out here breaking backboards over a loss to his own son,” another fan wrote.
“Son look how fast Austin turn his head listening,” a fan commented.
“‘AR: “Yeahhh! You can say that. Don’t leave that out!’” AR pour gas on fire,” one fan said.
Austin Reaves calls Kobe Bryant his favorite player in front of LeBron James
Fans have also pointed to Reaves’ latest appearance on James’ podcast, keeping the discourse surrounding them alive. Reaves appeared on Tuesday’s episode of “Mind The Game” alongside LeBron and Steve Nash.
He was asked to name his favorite player and answered:
“My favorite player ever is Kobe,” Reaves said, pointing to James. “As you know.”
James and Bryant are often compared in GOAT discussions, so Reaves’ choice did not go down well with LeBron’s fans.
Despite their differing opinions, the Lakers are on a roll, winning 16 of their last 18 matchups. Los Angeles is third in the West with a 48-26 record. They will return to action on Monday to face the Washington Wizards.
