Anthony Edwards failed to get a starting spot in the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. After votes from players, the media and fans were tallied on Monday, the Minnesota Timberwolves star fell short. The top vote-getters from the West were Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Stephen Curry and Victor Wembanyama.
Edwards’ exclusion prompted his teammate Julius Randle to tweet on the same day the results were released:
“AE5 a starter every day of the week, stop playing! Put his name in that MVP convo too. Did y’all witness last game?”
Julius Randle, who will earn $30.8 million this season, has had a front-row ticket to Anthony Edwards’ dazzling exploits. Over the past two games, Ant-Man was particularly electric.
Edwards led the Timberwolves to a come-from-behind 104-103 win over the San Antonio Spurs over a week ago. In the rematch on Saturday, the ultra-athletic guard erupted for a career-high 55 points in Minnesota’s 126-123 loss.
Randle emphasizing Edwards as a starter also seemed like a shot at Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs center often comes off the bench due to calf and knee injuries. Wemby has also been playing limited minutes as San Antonio has been extra cautious with him.
Anthony Edwards received 110 votes from players to be a starter while Wembanyama garnered 85, according to the voting results released by the NBA on Monday. The fans and the media, though, gave the upper hand to the 7-foot-4 center.
Anthony Edwards is enjoying career year, likely to earn reserve role in All-Star Game
Anthony Edwards is averaging a career-high 29.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He is shooting 50.4%, including 41.8% from deep, also career-best numbers.
Edwards’ playing time dropped from 36.3 minutes per game last season to 35.1 mpg. Although seeing action less, he has been much more efficient with his shots. He is undeniably the heart and soul and the leader of the Timberwolves, a team looking for another shot at an NBA Finals appearance.
Anthony Edwards failed to get a starting spot in the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, but it would be a major shock if he does not make it to the reserve pool.
