Noah Gragson shared why he didn’t land a punch on Kevin Magnussen after their dust-up at San Diego. The Kaulig Racing driver admitted he would’ve lost his ride if he’d overstepped.
Gragson and Magnussen had a multi-lap scrap during NASCAR’s inaugural race at Naval Base Coronado, until the latter got tired of being blocked and dumped the No.4 driver. A frustrated Gragson confronted Magnussen post-race, but the former F1 driver was having none of it.
On the latest episode of Dale Jr. Download, Chase Briscoe raised the topic with Gragson.
“I still can’t believe you didn’t throw a punch,” Briscoe said.
The No.4 drier also addressed the social media backlash he’d received, saying,
“They come out of the woodworks and it’s always guys with like zero posts and they’re just Europeans and they’re like, ‘You suck at driving’. If I ran with him for 30th, then we both kind of suck right?”
Kevin Magnussen went on to finish 27th and logged the fastest single lap pace, while Noah Gragson parked his car after their incident. Magnussen entered the race as part of Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 program, an initiative that welcomes international drivers in NASCAR.
Shane van Gisbergen was one such driver who used Project 91 to claim his maiden Cup win at the 2023 Chicago Street Race.
Noah Gragson reflects on ‘frustating’ situation at Kaulig Racing
In the same interview, Noah Gragson opened up on his lacklustre season with Kaulig Racing. The 28-year-old began with his Kevin Magnussen incident and delved into the team’s current state of affairs.
“I just get frustrated when they barred off the inside on lap two. You know what? I’m over it now. It was frustrating, probably more frustrated, our overall situation this year, how tough it’s been on the racetrack just every week. But at the same time you know what. I let my frustrations get the best of me and we’ll move on. It is what it is,” he said via aforementioned source.
Noah Gragson currently stands 30th with a single top-10 finish from 20 starts. His ninth at Talladega remains the sole bright spot for his team. He even managed to lead laps at the drafting track.
Gagson’s teammate, Ty Dillon, stands one spot behind with a lack of stage points as well. AJ Allmendinger, meanwhile, leads the team with a top-5 and three top-10 finishes. He currently ranks 22nd and is seven spots clear of the Chase cutoff.
At this rate, Kaulig Racing faces an uphill battle to make the postseason.
