“Disappointing; Mistake”: NASCAR world questions Chris Buescher’s decision to extend with RFK Racing

NASCAR veteran Chris Buescher signed a multiyear contract with Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, as the announcement was made on Tuesday. However, fans questioned Buescher’s decision to continue with RFK Racing amid reports of interest from Team Penske.

Chris Buescher’s contract with RFK Racing was set to conclude at the end of the 2026 season. Amid the uncertainty of the Charter situation at RFK for 2027, Buescher had been linked to Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing.

Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing put an end to the speculation and announced Buescher’s contract, which will see him race with them at least until the end of 2028.

Fans wondered if Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing was the right decision for Chris Buescher to continue with and wondered whether the American had offers from other teams on the table.

“Disappointing I really think he has the talent for better teams,” commented a user

Another wrote, “Respect to Chris for the loyalty, but if he had offers from Penske or any other of the Big 3 then he’s made a mistake”

“I respect the loyalty but might regret not picking penske,” commented another

Some fans speculated about the other options available for Chris Buescher, while some suggested Ryan Preece going to Penske amid RFK’s charter situation.

“People really thought he was gonna go to the 21 😭😭😭,” commented a user

Another wrote, “Preece to Penske or FRM?”

“Wonder who the other teams after him were,” mentioned another

Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing for the last couple of seasons has been racing with the third charter on lease from Rick Ware Racing. However, RWR already has a deal in place with Legacy Motor Club for the charter starting 2027. This puts RFK in a tough spot with its third full-time entry in 2027.

Chris Buescher has been with the RFK family for nearly two decades, first working in their shop as a teenager, and became their part-time development driver in 2009. Buescher won the ARCA and Xfinity (now O’Reilly) championships in Roush Fenway cars.

Buescher took to social media and shared an emotional message as he signed the contract extension.

“When I was 16, I got the opportunity of a lifetime to sign with one of the best teams in all of racing. I was fresh out of Legends cars with just six late model races under my belt. I spent weekdays in the shop, weekends running ARCA, just dreaming of getting to Cup… The road wasn’t easy, but the investment and support from everyone at @rfkracing has helped get me where I am today. Jack has always been committed to making me an all-around better driver, from the work we did in the shop to all he’s taught me at the track,” wrote Chris Buescher
