Memphis Lands G Zachary Davis After Three Seasons With South Carolina

After a 29-6 season culminating in a berth in the NCAA Tournament, the Memphis Tigers are set to add former Gamecock guard Davis to the mix ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Davis was a three-star recruit out of Orangeburg, SC, before committing to South Carolina. Originally known as a point guard, he transitioned to a wing role during his three seasons with the Gamecocks.

After a largely unimpactful freshman season, Davis emerged as a real player during his sophomore season. He started 17 of 33 games and contributed 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 43.2% from the field.

But it was during his junior season that he made the most impact.

The 6’7″, 200-pound guard scored a career-high 8.2 points while grabbing 4.6 rebounds and dishing out 1.8 assists.

Although the Gamecocks finished the season with an underwhelming 12-20 record, including only two SEC victories, Davis played exceptionally well in two instances, showcasing his potential for high-level play.

In 18 days, he scored 22 points on six of 13 shooting from the field in a loss to the 17th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. He shot 10 free throws and made nine of them.

Then, he had another 22-point performance against the eventual national champion Florida Gators on 9 of 18 shooting. The Gamecocks nearly pulled off the year’s upset, losing by a single point.

Considering those performances, it isn’t outlandish to think that Davis could assume a more significant role with the Tigers next season. With guard capabilities at 6’7″, he presents a mismatch with many smaller guards who defend him.
