    Will Ian Jackson Play Tonight?

Ian Jackson is expected to suit up for the Red Storm on Wednesday against the Huskies. The ankle injury that kept him out of the game against Creighton was sustained on Feb. 18 in a game against the Marquette Golden Eagles.

Ahead of the game against Creighton, Pitino said:

“He’s got a pretty good ankle sprain. He’s in a boot from the other night… He showed a little toughness, went back and got re-taped and played through pain [on Wednesday].”

Jackson’s addition will be a big boost to Rick Pitino’s lineup, who’d like to emulate the 81-72 win registered by St. John’s against UConn earlier in the season. That win snapped UConn’s 18-game winning streak at the time. Most notably, Jackson played a good hand in the win, finishing with eight points, one rebound, one assist and one steal in 15 minutes. He was 2-of-6 from the field and was perfect in converting all four free throws.

After transferring from North Carolina following his freshman year, Jackson has averaged 10.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 26 games, including 19 starts, for the Red Storm this season. His average playing time is 19 minutes. He is shooting 43%, including 36% from the 3-point line and 90.2% from the charity stripe.

Earlier this week, Pitino talked about Jackson’s progress in his first season with the Red Storm.

“I will say this about Ian: Ian the other day in practice had 12 assists and 11 rebounds. His trajectory is going the right way as a basketball player, learning to do other things [than score],” Pitino said. “The other night he went after loose balls hard, where he had a total flip [once]. He’s improving on the other areas he was basically missing. So we’re going to miss that.”

It remains to be seen if Jackson’s availability can help the Red Storm maintain their ongoing 13-game winning streak.
