After the Siena Saints lost to the Duke Blue Devils in the first round of the 2026 March Madness, it looks like Gerry McNamara has already decided on his next destination.
According to ESPN, Gerry McNamara is all set to become Syracuse Orange’s next head coach, with Adrian Autry set to part ways with the program after a dismal 15-17 regular season.
This season, McNamara helped the Siena Saints clinch the MAAC conference, helping the program secure a March Madness berth. Despite being paired up against the No. 1 seed Duke, the Saints put up a solid fight as they lost their first-round fixture with a scoreline of 71-65.
While McNamara has had a fairly successful season on court as the head coach, much of his prosperity could be attributed to his number one fan and supporter, his wife Katie Marie.
A Scranton, Pennsylvania native, Katie Marie grew up alongside Gerry McNamara, and their relationship started in high school. Katie and Gerry then eventually decided to tie the knot back in 2007 and have been together ever since.
After completing his college basketball career as a player with Syracuse, McNamara played in Greece and the NBA G League, and without a shadow of a doubt, Katie moved places with him, supporting Gerry in his professional endeavors.
After officially retiring as a player, McNamara joined Syracuse’s coaching staff, and throughout his stint at Syracuse, Katie was by Gerry’s side. The couple also have four children, Gerry, Patrick, Maggie, and Grace.
How Did Gerry McNamara Perform at Syracuse?
Given his recent head coaching stint with the Siena Saints, combined with 15 years spent at Syracuse on their coaching staff serving as their assistant head coach, there are no doubts surrounding his coaching experience as he walks into the head coach role at a fairly familiar place.
Deemed by many as a Syracuse legend, McNamara has been linked to the program ever since his college basketball days as a player. A stellar guard who featured in each and every one of Syracuse’s games between 2002 and 2006, Gerry was instrumental in helping the Orange clinch the 2003 national championship.
He also ended his CBB career at Syracuse as the program’s leading three-pointer scorer alongside the most minutes played at 4,799 minutes and the highest free-throw percentage of 0.888.
