Through more than a decade of leading the Oregon State Beavers, one person has always been at Wayne Tinkle’s side: his wife, Lisa Tinkle. Lisa is a basketball legend in her own right, having played for the Montana Lady Griz in the late 1980s.
She helped her team win four Big Sky championships and make several NCAA Tournament appearances. Her achievements got her inducted into the Montana Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. It was during her time at Montana that she met a young Wayne Tinkle, who was also playing college basketball.
They would go on to marry and have three kids together: Joslyn, Elleson, and Tres. All of them are college basketball players. According to Wayne Tinkle, his wife is the family rock.
“She’s just been amazing, and she’s stood by through it all and has really been our strength as a family,” Tinkle said in 2020. “You asked me how to credit why our kids are the way they are, obviously, she’s the staple.”
“She’s been the one that’s been there through it all. My playing days, I was away from them for a lot of times. My coaching days, I was away and missed a lot of things. She’s the one constant and has to have all the credit for what our kids have been able to do as people and as athletes, too,” he added.
Oregon State University Lets Go Of Wayne Tinkle
After half a decade of disappointing results, Oregon State has decided to let go of Wayne Tinkle, who led their basketball program for more than a decade.
“We are grateful to Wayne for his dedication to Oregon State and for the leadership he has provided our men’s basketball program,” read the statement. “He has represented Beaver Nation with integrity and commitment. As we approach the dawn of the new Pac-12 era, we believe it is in the best interest of our men’s basketball program to transition to its next chapter. These decisions are never easy, but we are focused on positioning our program for sustained success in a rapidly evolving collegiate athletics landscape.”
His stint in charge of the Beavers was overall disappointing, the biggest achievement being a Pac-12 championship title in 2021. Under his watch, Oregon made the NCAA tournament only twice and advanced the furthest in 2021 when they reached the Elite Eight.
